Alabama State University student-artists, within the College of Visual and Performing Arts, Theatre and Dance department, have been named as first-place winners in the Irene Ryan at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Region IV competition in Albany, Ga. The group of talented students continued a decade's long tradition of being among the best performers within the Southeastern United States.

 

University students Karsten Threatt and Garrison York will soon travel to the national competition at the John F. Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. to compete in being named as the "best of the best," explained Professor Brian Martin, chairman of ASU's Theatre and Dance Department.

"This accolade is a testament to these students’ exceptional skills, hard work, and dedication to their craft. We do not doubt that they will continue to make significant contributions to the field of acting in the years to come," stated Martin, a veteran director and himself, an actor. "By winning this award, we know that our University has some of the very best talent in the entire Southeastern region, which encompasses 15 states, (including Puerto Rico and Guam) as our ASU students continue to rise to the top. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Garrison and Karsten, for this remarkable accomplishment, which is a testament to their dedication and commitment to excellence."
